When reading the chapter “Finding and Managing Print and Online Sources,” the part that discussed understanding keywords and keyword searches was one that really caught my attention. It’s likely that a majority of our information and research is going to come from online sources, so it’s really important that we know how to use search engines to the best of their capabilities. If used properly, keywords are a great way to filter out sources that would normally come up in a general search that has next to nothing to do with what we’re actually looking for. Using keywords also helps maximize the accuracy of the search results. With my choice of topic, conducting the research would be a bit overwhelming without being able to narrow down the results. There are so many branches of comedy, and trying to search specifically for one type of comedy would be difficult if I couldn’t utilize keywords. Knowing the nuances of keywords, such as putting quotes around an entire phrase and using “OR,” will also make searching for information about our topics much easier.
