Anne Lamott’s chapter on first drafts was an almost reassuring thing to read. It promised that even those who are considered to be the most skilled writers struggle with the very thing they're praised for, and what she says they start with is something that could help with procrastination. In writing, one of the many things that contributes to procrastination is a lack of motivation, and that lack of motivation can stem from frustration at not knowing what to write or where to start. Lamott, though maybe not intending to, offers a solution to that. She writes about just writing whatever comes to mind even if it isn’t the best thing you could’ve written, because no one’s going to see it so it doesn’t matter if it’s your best work. Starting to write something is sometimes the biggest obstacle when it comes to writing, and just doing it regardless of how good it is could be the best solution to procrastination.
