One of the more interesting parts of chapter one was the section about genre conventions. Looking at examples of the type of genre someone wants to compose in is something most people probably do, as it definitely helps ensure that what they create stays within the parameters of the genre they’re making it in. Making sure you stick to a genre’s conventions is a really important part of creating things, whether it’s in a new genre or a familiar genre, and should be one of the first steps in composing something new. It’s also very helpful because it makes someone who may be new to working in that specific genre become more familiar with it.
The thing I find most interesting about genre conventions is that creators follow them almost automatically. Although it's probably more conscious for some people, for some it's done without really meaning to. When working within a genre, one has to follow its conventions or it might not be considered a part of the genre they want it to be. Genre conventions are generally followed, whether people mean to follow them or not.
